American Girl Doll Details, Information and Resource


The Historical American Girl dolls are a wonderful way to learn about different time periods in American History.  Each doll has an accompanying set of books and a variety of accessories appropriate to their time in history. 

KAYA:  1764
Kaya is nicknamed "Magpie" which means an untrustworthy and selfish bird.  This Nez Perce girl got that nickname after neglecting her brothers to compete in a race.  Then she follows the example of Swan Circling and become more of a hero.  She is a nature lover who wants to share the world with her blind sister.  She loves animals, especially her horse.
Kaya was introduced to the American Girl line in 2002.
 
FELICITY MERRIMAN:  1774
Living in Revolutionary times meant a time of decision for Felicity.  Her colony is divided into Loyalists and Patriots.  She has chosen to be a Patriot, like her father.  She believes the American Colonies should be free from British rule.  Her father even stops selling tea in his shop, which doesn't please Grandfather (who is a Loyalist) one bit.  Then she meets Elizabeth Cole, also a Loyalist, and struggles with her feelings and beliefs.

Felicity was introduced to the American Girl line in 1991.

ELIZABETH COLE:  1774
Elizabeth moves from England to Williamsburg, Virginia with her parents and older sister, Annabelle. Her parents are loyalists and they believe in the king. She soon meets Felicity, who is a Patriot like her father. But soon, the two girls become best friends through hard times.

Elizabeth was introduced to the American Girl line in 2005 as Felicity's Best Friend.

JOSEFINA:  1824
Josefina wishes that her dear mother was still with her and tries to preserve all the memories she can. She is overjoyed when her mothers sister comes to live with them and help out. Can Josefina hold onto the past and still embrace changes?

Josefina was introduced to the American Girl line in 1997.
 
KIRSTEN LARSON:  1854
Kirsten leaves with her family to move to the New World.  They settle in Minnesota with her aunt and uncle's family.  She finds it difficult to fit in since no one speaks her language or understands her traditions.

Kirsten was one of the original three American Girl dolls introduced in 1986.
 

ADDY WALKER:  1864
Addy's family are slaves who dream of being free.  Her parents talk about escaping to freedom often.   When Addy's pa and brother are sold, she and her mama make the trip to freedom alone.  After escaping and starting a new life, Addy's biggest wish is to reunite with the rest of her family.

Addy was introduced to the American Girl line in 1993.
 

SAMANTHA PARKINGTON:  1904
Samantha Parkington is excited about a servant girl, Nellie O'Malley, coming to work next door. She sees a potential friend in Nellie. While others can't look past wealth, Samantha only wants friendship.

Samantha was one of the original three American Girl dolls introduced in 1986.
 
NELLIE O'MALLEY:  1904
Nellie is a motherless young girly who becomes a servant girl along with her younger sisters and her father. She becomes a servant right next door to Samantha Parkington and the two start becoming friends through Nellie's reading lessons.

Nellie was introduced to the American Girl line in 2004 as Samantha's Best Friend.

KIT KITTREDGE:  1934
Hard times fall onto Kit's family as the Great Depression rolls around. Kit's father loses his business and the family instantly struggles. She starts working on chores and helping out around the house but when she can, she escapes to writing.

Kit was introduced to the American Girl line in 2000.

MOLLY MCINTIRE:  1944
Molly lives during World War II and her father is a doctor overseas. She worries about him constantly. With her new English friend, Emily, she learns that it's great to stick together - just as the country must do to win the war.

Molly was one of the original three American Girl dolls introduced in 1986.

EMILY BENNETT:  1944
Emily flees from England to Molly's house while the war in raging on in London during World War II. Emily is shy and Molly tries to be nice and soon the two girls become best friends.

Emily was introduced to the American Girl line in 2006 as Molly's Best Friend.

JULIE ALBRIGHT:  1974
Julie is a fun and loving girl living in San Francisco in the '70's. Julie's parents get divorced and soon Julie moves away from her best friend, Ivy Ling. She needs to find a way to stay positive during this tough time.

Julie was introduced to the American Girl line in 2007.

IVY LING:  1974
Ivy is a middle child in a Chinese American household. Her mother goes back to school to become a lawyer and her father's busy with two jobs. And then she finds out her best friend, Julie, is moving. Now she has to find a way to stay sane with all the events going on around her.

Ivy was introduced to the American Girl line in 2007 as Julie's Best Friend.
